Oklahoma City offers free clinic for new drivers

If you were asked to name common causes of car accidents, what would you say? Perhaps drunk driving, distracted driving or disobeying traffic laws are at the top of your list. One factor some people may not consider, but is true for many drivers on Oklahoma roads, is inexperience.

There are thousands of teen drivers on our roads today, and many of them have little experience in so-called emergency situations. Making smart decisions on the road comes with time, and teen drivers haven't had much of it. Sometimes, this can lead to a car accident. Fortunately, a free clinic is being offered in Oklahoma City this weekend to teach young drivers how to avoid accidents.

The half-day clinics will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. According to a report from the Norman Transcript, drivers who attend will spend time in the classroom as well as in cars on a closed course, learning how to respond to challenging driving situations. The goal of the classes is to help young drivers make responsible and informed decisions when behind the wheel, including avoiding distractions and reacting appropriately to potentially dangerous situations that could arise on the road.

Hopefully young drivers in our area take advantage of this learning opportunity. Knowing how to respond to challenging situations on the road can go a long way toward avoiding serious car accidents. However, accidents do happen and sometimes through no fault of your own. In those cases, it may be worth looking into Oklahoma's personal injury laws.
