Oklahoma County Clerk faces DUI charges

According to authorities, the Oklahoma County Clerk was taken into custody on Sept. 17 following an automobile collision. She has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident. The 67-year old woman was apparently involved with a hit and run accident, according to Oklahoma City police, but a report on the incident was not yet available.

Oklahoma sees rise in drunk driving deaths despite US trend down

Bucking the national trend, the state of Oklahoma has seen its number of drunk driving deaths rise 10 percent in the years between 1994 and 2012, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is despite harsher laws against driving while impaired, well-funded public education campaigns and vehicles better built to protect drivers and passengers in a crash. While deaths have gone up in Oklahoma, they have declined nationally by about 20 percent. Only six other states saw such an increase during this period.

Former NFL player gets DUI charges after traffic stop

A traffic stop in Oklahoma on Sept. 2 led to drunk driving charges for a former NFL player. Former Detroit Lion Ronnell Lewis was taken into police custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after an early morning traffic stop. A police spokesperson said that officers saw Lewis's truck cross the center line while driving on Main Street in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Police reportedly smelled alcohol. They also claimed to see a six-pack of beer with one can missing in the truck.

Authorities suspect drunk driving to blame for Oklahoma crash

A two-vehicle car accident occurred around 11 p.m. in Oklahoma City on Friday, Aug. 30. The accident happened on North Portland and Northwest 192nd Street. According to authorities, a vehicle that a 20-year-old woman was driving crossed over the center lane and collided head-on with another vehicle that a 40-year-old was driving.
