Oklahoma police taken on a wild chase by alleged drunk driver

Police took a driver into custody after he allegedly led them on a high-speed car chase on the morning of Nov. 8. The man was charged with several offenses including a felony DUI. According to officials, the incident began when a police officer attempted to pull the driver over for failure to use a turn signal. The traffic offense took place close to Sheridan and 15th.

The driver pulled over after a while, and when he did, a woman jumped out of the car claiming that the driver refused to release her from the vehicle. After that, the driver sped away as police were just about to approach the vehicle. He then drove onto the Broken Arrow Expressway and reportedly reached speeds of up to 115 miles per hour. Law enforcement chased the man at speeds reaching 110 miles per hour. The driver left the expressway at the Detroit exit, and police chose to end the chase rather than put others in danger.

The driver lost control of the vehicle close to 1900 S. Boulder, where a witness allegedly saw the man get out of his car and flee on foot. Police caught up with the man in Veterans Park. The man was charged with a third DUI, driving with no drivers license, felony eluding and expired tags.

For DUI, a judge may hand down a sentence that includes lost driving privileges, jail time, hefty fines and a long probation period. A skilled Oklahoma defense attorney might be able to construct a strong defense for someone facing serious DUI charges. The attorney might be able to have the case dismissed if law enforcement violated a defendant's rights. On the other hand, the defense and prosecution might work together to negotiate a plea agreement.
