Oklahoma man with two minors in vehicle charged with DUI

Oklahoma City police recently took a 28-year-old man into custody on suspicion of drunk driving after receiving a call about an erratic driver. In addition to being charged with DUI, the man has been accused of child endangerment. The child endangerment charge was brought after police say that they found two children in the front seat of the man's vehicle.

The phone call claimed that a vehicle was being driven erratically in the vicinity of South Western Avenue and Southwest 89th Street on Oklahoma City's southwest side. Police officers responding to the call say that they decided to pull over the man's car when they observed it driving against the flow of traffic. The car came to a stop on South Santa Fe Avenue in the vicinity of Southwest 62nd Street.

According to a police report, the man then exited his vehicle and appeared to be unsteady on his feet. His movements were said to be disjointed and slow, and his eyes appeared to be bloodshot. Officers say that they also detected a strong smell of alcohol on the man's breath. The man was subsequently booked into the Oklahoma County jail, and the two children were placed into the care of child protective services.

Penalties for DUI in Oklahoma can be severe, and even first-time offenders can be sent to jail for up to a year. Motorists facing a drunk driving charge may be well advised to mount an aggressive defense if they hope to limit the long-term consequences, which can be life-changing. An experienced criminal defense attorney may point out mitigating factors to prosecutors in an attempt to potentially reduce the charges or punishment.
