Two Oklahoma teens die after car accident near Tulsa

Two Oklahoma teenagers have died after they were involved in a car accident Saturday.

It seems the car accident that took their lives is a sad and devastating reminder of how important it is for young people to be responsible when they are driving.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom are from Tahlequah, were among the seven young people in a vehicle that was headed down Indian Road, near Pettit Bay Rad. (Tahlequah is a community in eastern Oklahoma, somewhat near Tulsa).

Investigators think the 22-year-old driver ran through a stop sign and then struck a tree. Five of the people in the vehicle were ejected upon impact.

All in all, only one passenger escaped without injury. An 18-year-old man was taken to a Tulsa hospital, where at last report he was in critical condition. A 16-year-old girl was hospitalized with leg injuries. Two other occupants of the vehicle received medical treatment after the crash and were released.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said it was still investigating what caused the driver to miss the stop sign.

We know that, as we head into summer, young people all across Oklahoma will be getting together with their friends and heading off to parties, bonfires and the like. It is crucial that young people resist the temptation to overload vehicles, or to give into the temptations of distracted driving. That may have been what happened here, and as you can see, the results are nothing short of awful.
