Man facing DUI charge after being saved by officer

Approximately ten miles north of Norman, Oklahoma, an alleged drunk driver was pulled from a ravine by a Moore police officer around 1:30 a.m. on June 18. When the officer arrived at the scene on Southwest 34th Street, the 40-year-old man had escaped from his wrecked, burning vehicle but had fallen into the ravine. The man was then dragged to safety by the officer for about 30 yards into a nearby field.

The officer told a local news outlet that the driver only suffered minor cuts and bruises. After the officer pulled him to safety, he was hospitalized then taken into custody. The officer said he was surprised that the man was not seriously hurt. According to police, the man admitted that he had been drinking heavily before the crash. He was charged with DUI and detained at the Cleveland county jail. The source did not provide any information on his bail amount.

There are many potential penalties for those who have been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Depending on a driver's blood alcohol content and criminal history when arrested for DUI, he or she could face a mandatory jail sentence, as well as a license suspension and fine. In some cases, drivers are required to install ignition interlock devices in their cars, even for a first drunk driving offense.

A DUI defense attorney can help some clients have their drunk driving charges reduced or, in some instances, dropped completely. Reviewing the results and administration of breath and blood tests, looking for discrepancies in police reports and seeking to have driver statements thrown out as evidence are some of the strategies used by lawyers to cast doubt on the cases against their clients.
