Take the time to pick the right DUI lawyer for your case

When you are facing criminal charges of any sort, even DUI charges, choosing your lawyer is one of the most important decisions you will make. This is because having a lax lawyer can mean that you end up in a worse position in your case than what you would have been if you had one of the best lawyers possible. There are several things that you should consider when you choose a lawyer.

You should feel comfortable with your defense attorney. This is important because you and your lawyer will have to discuss the intimate details surrounding your case. You have to be able to trust that your lawyer will use the information you provide in a suitable manner.

Your lawyer should consider your desires. Every criminal justice case has certain considerations that must come into the picture when thinking about how to handle the defense. One of the considerations is your desire. That means that if you say you won't consider a plea deal, the lawyer should respect that point. That doesn't mean that he or she won't discuss why you might want to consider a plea. It simply means that once you make a choice, the lawyer won't try to force the opposite on you.

Your lawyer should consider the options that are on the table. This includes plea deals, sentencing possibilities and other options. Even if you are convicted of a crime, your lawyer might be able to influence the sentencing in a way that will help you more than punish you.

Finally, the lawyer must be realistic. You wouldn't want your attorney to fill your head with unrealistic expectations. Instead, your lawyer should prepare you for what might, or what will likely, happen.
